My Gaming Journey: From Amiga to YouTube

My love for gaming started back in the early 90s, thanks to my brother and his Amiga and Super Nintendo. He not only introduced me to this amazing world, but also helped me navigate the complexities of DOS and early Windows. Most of my early gaming was single-player or couch co-op, but with the arrival of dial-up internet (a glorious 56kb modem!), I finally stepped into the exciting realm of multiplayer. After diving into games like Elite Force and Counter-Strike, I co-founded a PC gaming clan called “Valiant” with a group of close friends. While we fought a few clan wars in Counter-Strike, those games couldn’t hold us long. So, our focus quickly shifted to simply enjoying games together.

In 2013, I decided to share our gaming adventures on YouTube. Starting with trailer-like videos, I then moved on to creating funny gameplay content inspired by SovietWomble. One day, after watching a particularly bad review of Star Trek: Armada, I felt compelled to do better. So, I teamed up with a friend and created an in-depth review, which sparked a passion for creating more reviews and interviews. Through this journey, I discovered that a vast amount of gaming history remains undocumented. This realization fueled my desire to not only create videos but also build this website and collaborate with different gaming communities to preserve and celebrate gaming’s rich past.

So, join me on this nostalgic trip down memory lane as we explore the wonders of the gaming world, both old and new!

FAQ

Where are you from?

I’m from Austria and live in Vienna.

How long have you been on Youtube/streaming?

While I started using YouTube with a personal account back in 2005, near its launch, The Valiant channel you see today was actually created in 2009 for my gaming clan.

From 2017 to 2023, I also streamed regularly on Twitch. However, I’ve since transitioned all streaming content to YouTube. This is partly because YouTube offers better video quality, but more importantly, because content uploaded to YouTube remains permanently available, allowing viewers to enjoy it anytime!

What got you into streaming?

Before diving into YouTube content creation, I actively tried to improve my English for years. I consumed a lot of English media – watching movies and shows, playing games, and reading. However, speaking remained a challenge.

So, I thought why not combine my passion for gaming with language learning? Twitch and YouTube offered a platform to not only connect with like-minded gamers from around the world, but also to practice speaking English under pressure. It proved to be a fantastic way to improve my fluency and confidence!

Which movies and series do you enjoy?

I have a wide range of tastes when it comes to entertainment! I enjoy dramas with relatable characters, like “The Green Mile,” as well as scifi horror that builds a believable world, like “Aliens.” I also love sitcoms grounded in real life situations, like “Home Improvement,” and classic sci-fi that explores thought-provoking ideas, like in the classic Star Trek shows. What ties it all together for me is a sense of realism – whether it’s the characters feeling believable or the world they inhabit being well-developed and immersive.
